Janet Hoyer Cobb
Janet paints and teaches from her studio at Avoca
Beach, NSW, Australia. She is predominately a figurative artist, who
demonstrates a strong interest in the compositional aspects of space
and pattern in her works. Janet holds a Diploma with the Julian
Ashton Art School, Sydney, and has completed tonal studies with
Graham Inson in Sydney and figurative expression studies through
sculpture at the Rhok Acadamie in Brussels, Belgium. Three years
living in Europe enabled her to research 19th and 20th Century
figurative works as well as contemporary images in major collections
and the influences Japanese art has had on art movements during this
period. The tactile quality of drawing with charcoal strongly
influences the direction of Janet’s art. In recent years she has
worked on a series of large charcoal portraits of elderly
Australians, drawn from life, travelling as far afield as Arnhem
Land and Central Australia. During her painting career Janet has
gained recognition and awards in a variety of media, including the
$7,500 ‘Herald Sun Camberwell Rotary’ Watercolour-Works on Paper
Prize in 2005, with a charcoal portrait. Her paintings, and drawings
have widespread appeal and are exhibited in private and
corporate collections in Australia and overseas. Janet continues
to develop and share her artistic experiences and expertise within
the art community. Each year, she conducts workshops and individual
classes in a diversity of techniques, including watercolour and
drawing. She has also had articles published in the Australian
Artist magazine. Stop Press : Janet Hoyer Cobb wins First Prize
in Figurative Painting section of the 2010 Sydney Royal Easter Show
Art competition. Congratulations ! |
