Mosman born artist whose family history extends over the last 100
years. Jill studied at the National Art School, East Sydney for 3
years before training at and graduating from the Sydney Teachers
College. Her teaching career consisted of years at high schools at
Narrabeen, Sydney, Maitland in the Hunter Valley and as Art Mistress
at Willoughby Girls High School Sydney, During this time Jill
designed costumes, sets and posters for various theatre groups and
worked as a freelance designer for a Sydney printing company,
specialising in designs with an Australian theme for
export. During the 1970s she studied Chinese brush painting
techniques for more than seven years, investigating the combination
of these techniques with fabric, painting and creative embroidery.
Jill continues to explore the possibilities of in corporating the
spontaneity of watercolour painting (her preferred medium) with
discipline and essential simplicity of the Chinese Brush Painting
Method, using predominantly floral subject matter. More recently she
has developed a colourful, spectacular technique for exotic flora
such as lotus, hibiscus and frangipani. For several years Jills
work has featured in many Sydney School Art Exhibitions including
St. Josephs. Riverview, St Augustines and Barker College. She is
regularly commissioned to produce paintings and her work is
represented in collections in Australia and
overseas. Awards
